Ping Pong Averages

Rounding is a math strategy that uses addition and division strategies.Rounding means to circle it to the nearest ten, hundred, thousands, and more.

Addition and division are both operations the are used for rounding. To round, the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

Here comes the rounding part comes in so if the numbers are 5-9 they are called high five and the numbers that are 0-4 they are called four floor. Look for the last digit. Example: 21.85 now becomes 21.9 because 5 is above.
Rounding can help people get better at adding and dividing. Also at understanding how to round numbers in to 1 decimal place.
LI investigate units of time.

  1. Kia Ora Chisa,
I liked the way your group showed how you came up with the answers. What did you use to come up with the answers?

  2. Hello David,

Thank you for your positive feedback! The tools that I used were white boards. I also used a calculator to see if I have done the right thing. Do you think you have new tools to solve other equations?

  3. Hi Chisa,
Sometimes I use written algorithm to solve different equations but in this case I also use the rounding skill to round to the first decimal value. What other strategies you use that are not used in school.

  5. Greetings Chisa,

Great job at the ping pong throwing part. I have learnt a lot from your blog post. What did you find hard and why?

    1. Hello Te Raumati,
Thank you for your positive feedback. I think I found putting the last 2 cups really hard because I had to aim and most of the times the ball goes somewhere else. Do you think it’s easy to aim and why?

    2. Hi Chisa,

That's a really interesting question. I don't think it's easy to aim because there are a lot of steps to make sure your aiming is good. What do you think would make it easier to aim?
