Making connections is a reading strategy to connect with yourself, from a text, and the world. There are three connections which are text to self, text to text, and text to world.
Text to self is to compare the text to yourself. To make a text to yourself the reader needs to understand the text, then compare it to yourself. Example: The mouse is happy when he gets a nut - I'm happy when I get things.
Text to text is to compare the text to another text. To make a text to text the reader needs to understand the text, then compare it to another text. Example: The gruffalo is big - Rubeus Hagrid from the Harry Potter story has a big stomach.
Text to world is to compare the text to the world. To make a text to the world the reader needs to understand the text, then compare it to the world. Example: The mouse has no house - Sometimes people don't have a house but most people do.
