Money | Maths

Money is used for paying things such as food, home loans, etc.

NZ money has 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, and $2 are coins and $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 are notes.

Example:

If someone had $10 and bought $1.50c chocolate bar and a $1.70c ice cream, how much money is left? We can solve this equation by using place value. First add 50c + 70c = $1.20c. Another way to solve this is: divide 70c into 20c and 50c. Next add 50c + 50c = $1. Then add $1 + 20c = $1.20c.  Next add $1 + $1 = $2. Then add $2 + $1 = $3. Finally add $3 + 20c = $3.20c.

It is important to know the use of money.

Kiwi Sport | Touch Rouby

This week we learned how to do a new skill called plant the ball in touch rugby.

First we did a drill by touch, place the ball on the ground, then step over the ball with a buddy.

Next we played a game where we had two teams. We then tried to get the ball by touching the other team. After they were tagged they had to place the ball on the ground then go over the ball, and the other team will get it.

Lastly we played a game where we had the 2 attackers and 1 defender, and we had to get the ball to score.

I enjoyed doing this activity. I found this easy because I have done this before.

Maths | Jobs

Mostly all types of jobs uses maths, teaching, cooking, sports, cashier, car dealerships, etc

Lego creators need to use measurement and counting. In this job measuring is important because it will be easier to plan the length, width, height, and the layout of the lego building.

Counting is also important in this job because the creator need to know how much they have used to build.

Lego creators need to use these maths strategies so they can get the same number, and size.

LI.to identify the maths used in jobs.

Writing | Narrative

Narratives are made up stories. Narrative uses third person words and past tense. The structure of the narrative is TOPES.

To plan a narrative, first brainstorm as many ideas as possible, then chose one that is best.

Next write who the characters are going to be. Then write the problem that is going to happen in the story. Events is usually written to lead to the solution, the solution can be failed or succeeded

To write a narrative, write sentences and paragraphs using the ideas.

It is important to know how to plan a narrative so people can learn each process of it.

Novel Study | Reading

The Twits is a fictional book that was created by the author Roald Dahl.

The first two chapters was about how Mr Twit would get Mrs Twits walking stick and add little pieces of wood under the stick. Mrs Twit doesn't notice the next day. Mrs Twit then noticed that her walking stick got longer then before. Then Mr Twit had an idea about putting the wood under the chair legs which Mrs Twit never noticed.

The second two chapters was about how Mr Twit had an idea. He tied Mrs Twits ankles to the ground and stretched Mrs Twits body with gas balloons so Mrs Twit won't be shrinking and getting smaller. After a while Mr Twit chopped off the rope from Mrs Twit's ankle that made her fly up into the sky.

The Twits is a funny book that lots of people can read including children.

Inquiry | Insulator

Insulators are used to stop the heat from leaving one place to another. Five materials that were tested for the ability to insulate were glass, polystyrene, tin, paper cup, and plastic cup. Different types of materials can keep in the heat or the cold depending on what they are made for.

The containers that kept things cool were tin, and plastic. This is because the coolness stayed in the container.

The containers that kept things warm were plastic cup, paper cup, and tin. This is because the heat stayed in the container.

The container that kept the water warm and cold was plastic cup.

It is a good way to know which type of container to use when storing things.

Narrative Plan | Writing

This week we have been learning to plan a narrative.

First we reminded ourselves what the structure of a narrative was, which is TOPES. TOPES stands for title, orientation, problem, events, and solution. Orientation talks about who, when, what, and why? The problem is something that goes wrong in the story, the events talks about what the characters do in order to solve that problem, and the solution talks about the last things the characters do to solve the problem.

Next we watched two films. We then talked about where the title, orientation, problem, events, and solution were.

Then we listed different ideas for our film, and took out ideas that we didn't want.

When we chose an idea, we thought about how we could turn that idea into a short narrative, that would only be one A4 page long if it was been written, and 30s - 2m long if it was filmed. We then started to planned our narrative and wrote our ideas into sentences.

I enjoyed planning the narrative and I also liked about my idea that I have chosen.
