Fantastic Earth Facts

This week for SSR Selfie I have read this book about fantastic earth of facts. This is a non fiction book (real facts). 

First I wrote the author of the book and the illustrator by this book, and wrote 3 facts about this book. 

I enjoyed this activity, one of the facts that it interested me was that vent tube worms can grow up to 2 metres long and they can live without eating anything.

Punctuation Challenge

This lesson was about using punctuation marks in right places of a text.

First I matched the punctuation marks, and the meaning by its name. I knew some of the punctuation marks that made this activity easy for me. 

Next I wrote one sentence with many marks as I can. I was able to write 5 sentences. We had to write as few sentences as we could using all punctuation marks. 

I enjoyed learning to use some punctuation marks like semicolon, and brackets. This activity was a bit easy for me because I knew most of the punctuation marks, and when to use it.

Idiom

This week for reading we were explaining different idioms. An idiom is a phrase that means something different to what it usually means.

We picked three idioms which was: draw a blank meaning can't remember, stir a hornet's nest meaning to cause a lot of trouble, and wolf in sheep's clothing meaning a person who pretends to be nice but is not.

After we picked three idioms we wrote a script and created videos to explain the idioms we chose visually.

I enjoyed this activity and I will do it again.

Swimming

The first lesson for my water safety was used to get into groups by showing the instructors our swimming ability. 

I was put into Kelly's group. In Kelly's group, we practiced swimming in our front and my back to the other platform. 

Next we did stream line. I had to point my arm and my hands and I to the other platform. 

Then I practiced turning our front then turning to our backs on the water with boards. 

Finally I did free styling and practiced jellyfish. I had to float on my back and did sculling.

I found this a bit easy because I knew how to do some of the swimming skill.

Tangram

Today I learned how to make tangrams. 

First I made a square piece of paper because tangrams are made from a big square. 

Lastly I folded the square into various shapes and cut them out.

This was easy for me because I have did done this before.

Word Problems and Strategies

I learnt to use different strategies to solve equations using all four operations/multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. A strategy is a plan to complete a task.

Some of our equations: 

Our first equation was 84 - 7. We used four different strategies to solve this equation. One of our strategy was the number line. We first started off at 77 then added 3 to get to a tidy number which was 80. The added 4 to get to 84.

Our second equation was 1.5 - 0.885. We used three different strategies. One of our strategy was the written algorithm. We first started by adding 0.885 + 0.005 = 0.890. Then 0.890 + 0.010 = 1.0. Lastly I added 1.0 + 0.5 = 1.5. 

Our third equation was 88÷8. We used three different strategies. One of our strategy was counting in 8. 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88.

I enjoyed this activity because I learned some of the strategy to solve the equations.

Procedure

I learnt to write a procedure. Procedures are the sequence of the actions to finish a task.

First I wrote one verb on each step. Example: Apply equal amounts of mayonnaise on each slice.

Next I wrote the specific verbs on each step.

Then I wrote the ingredients that I need to make my sandwich.

After that I added the images that connected to the steps.

Finally I wrote an interesting title. Example: A mind blowing simple sandwich.

I enjoyed learning and writing a procedure.
