Technological Practices

LI.to use technological practices process to design a toy.

For Mrs Fisi’iahi’s Inquiry lesson, we were focusing on the three last technological processes. They were: build, test and evaluate. We used the required materials in order to build the AUV rover. After this, we tested and compared each group’s rover to see which group was able to scramble across the floor the furthest. Evaluating our results was the last step.

I found this activity hard because we needed to think of the issue why our toy wasn't rolling.

ASB Getwise

LI.to be wise with our money.

The ASB getwise programme helps kids be smart with money, spend or save money. We played a game in teams with $1800 to go to Fiji on a holiday, and to earn points. We were also able to use the credit card and pay it before added another $100.

As a group we needed to be wise with our money for passport, flight, accomodation, hotel, travel insurance, and activities. The things we chose for our holiday were paying $200 for passport, $500 for economy flight, $600 5 star hotel with $100 food ticket to cover all meals, $200 for activitiies, and we also added a $300 insurance just in case something happenes.

I enjoyed doing this game because it helps us in the future of how to use money wisly.

Maths | Museum Trip

LI: To plan a night out that fits within the given budget of $45.00.

Today for maths we had to solve a maths problem of a museum trip. The most efficient strategy that I was using was multiplication because I needed three times for the activities, and the other things. This maths problem had a budget of $45.00 to spend for their trip and we had to see how much money they had left by subtracting the admission, and the activities. I found doing this activity easy because I'm familiar working out with financial capabilities.

Summary about Money

LI.to create a summary about Money.

This week , My group created an Summary about money , we first started off by reading about it. We talked about how money was used back in the days , how money was created ? Who created money? What money looked like in ancient times. We then found 20 words that we thought were important from the story , then we chose six most important words, then we created a summary about the text.

The interesting information that I found was about how the original coins were shaped like spades and knives.

A Moment in Time

LI: To use the language features and structure of published poem to help use write our own poem.

We looked at the language features and structure of a poem called ‘A Moment in Time’ and used our experiences from camp to follow the structure and collaboratively create our own moment in time poem.

To describe what we heard, what we saw, how we felt and what we wondered we used our senses, adjectives and adverbs.

Ajectives are words that describes a noun.

Adverbs are words that describes a verb.

I found this interesting because I got to use powerful words that made my poem more powerful.

Settings

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of the reader

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind.

To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer.

I found this interesting because there were more powerful words than the words that I have written.

Toys

LI: To strengthen connections to technology.

We have been learning about technological practice. This week we have been learning about the 6 processes of Technological Design and how each one is important in the process of designing a product.

We are using the processes of technological practices to design and build a rubber band- powered rover that can scramble across the floor.

I found this interesting because there were  ways of making a toy that can scramble across the floor.

Some of the examples are: Argentina - Aketina, Chile - Hiri, and Colombia - Kolompia, Wales - Weera, and Ireland - Airangi. I found this activity easy because some of the names in Maori were similar to the English names.

Care Awards | Respect | Own task: created with my teacher

LI.to create a comic story about respect.

Today I have done my last respect task, and it was a short comic story about respect. In this comic it shows about a girl called Jessie who was mean to a girl called Ella becuase of a colour she wears. I enjoyed doing this activity because people can learn from the comic and people can start respecting others for what they are wearing and other reasons. For the comic it was created with my teacher, and she gave me some advise like changing some lines when some characters were talking, and what the story could be about.

I wrote 4 examples of how to show respecct and I took some photos that links to that examples. One example of what respect is when using good manners. I enjoyed doing this activity because people can learn from the DLO and use it.

For this task I have written about how we are a digital school, about the care awards, Kapa-Haka and Pasifica, camp, and school trips. In this brochure I wrote some information about what year groups go, and what our school values are. I enjoyed creating this brochure because it shows what our school is like and some information about what we do at school.

Care Awards | PBS Collage

LI.to create a collage showcasing life at PBS.

This week I have created a collage that was showcasing life at PBS. First I used some images from the school websites. Next I got some images that people took of our school from my drive. After collecting the images I placed them in differnet places about PBS. I enjoyed doing this activity because I've created a collage before and it was really fun.

Tutoring someone who needs extra help with a skill | Care Awards

 LI.to tutor someone.

A few weeks ago I have tutored someone who needed extra help on their long division. First I needed to find out what equation she needed to learn. Next I taught her the skill that she needs help with. After that I gave her an example of a question to see if she understood the steps for dividing. Lastly she was able to divide it by herself and complete the maths task.

Care Awards | Confidence

On the last day of the term one I got my first badge which was confidence, and I needed to have 5 tasks to get it.  The tasks I completed to get the badge were being a duffy at assembly, teaching a small group of juniors play a simple game, enter a competition, creating a DLO on how to stand up to bullies, and a teacher created task.

Thank you card | Care Award

LI. to write a thank you card to a teacher or a staff member.

Last Term everyone who went to camp wrote a thank you card that took their time to be with us. First I wrote something to thank you, then what we appreciated, what was our favourite thing and our name. I enjoyed writing a thank you card because they took their time on us during camp.
