Summer Learning Journey | Water Cycle in a Bag

Today I have done another activity called water cycle in a bag. Water cycle in a bag is the process of the water evaporating into water vapour, then condensing to form clouds, then precipitating back to earth by forming rain. In the image above I have created my own water cycle and I have sat it on my windowsill for 2 days to see the changes in the plastic bag.

To create your own water cycle you will need to get a plastic bag, tape, food colouring (optional), marker/vivid, and water. After getting these materials you can write the four stages of the water cycles on the bag (this is optional), but it can help you visualize whats going on inside the bag. Then put the water inside the bag, and if you have, put your food colouring in it and mix it carefully. Now you can check it every hour and see whats happening inside your bag.

The changes I saw were that the small water droplets got bigger from the previous day. I enjoyed doing this activity because it allowed me to understand more of what happened to the water when it has been placed on the window.

Summer Learning Journey | One Point Perspective

Today I have done an activity called one point perspective. A one point perspective is a drawing technique that helps us achieve depths. When we make a one point perspective drawing, the object get smaller as it moves farther into the distance. The image I created was a beach on the left hand side, a very quiet road in the middle, and on the right hand side I made a field and mountains behind it. I enjoyed making a one point perspective image because I really like how it turned out and how it looks.

Summer Learning Journey | Stick Figure Fun

Today I have done another activity called stick figure fun. A stick figure is drawn by having a circled head, and the body, arms, and legs are drawn as lines. In this activity I have created 10 figures doing different activities like singing, biking, ribbon gymnastics, hitting, ice skating, sleeping, working, walking, watching tv, and exercising.

To make my figures look like they are doing a particular activity I moved some parts of the body and also added some equipments to the people. One of my favourite figures I have created so far was the working one, and the biking one because its one of the detailed figures, and because I like to do both of the things.

I found this activity fun and also a little bit challenging since sometimes when I drew the figures it sometimes didn't look like what I wanted it to be.

Summer Learning Journey | 5 Word Summer Text Graphic

Today I have done another activity called text graphic. In this activity I needed to pick 5 words that reminded me of summer, and I picked coolness, cockcrow (defined as dawn), calm, cozy, and clear. The reason why I chose these words was because during dawn its cool, calm, and cozy in our house, and clear refers to when there are no people in the beaches, since theres the only sounds of waves coming in and going out.

To create your own text graphics, you will need to pick 5 words that recall about summer, find a summer image, then choose a font and the colour of the words that makes the reading easier, and lastly share it on your blog.

I found this activity easy because I knew what reminded me of summer.

Summer Learning Journey ~Poetry Slam ~ Haiku

This was my third poetry slam activity and I made a haiku about summer. Haiku is a form of poetry with three lines, in those three lines there is a specific amount of syllables needed, which is 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line, and 5 syllables in the last/third line. When writing a haiku it is mostly about writing about nature which are, birds, plants, and types of weather in that related season. I enjoyed doing this activity because it allowed me to practice writing a haiku poem.

Summer Learning Journey | Seasonal Greetings Card

Today I have done an activity called seasonal greetings card. In this activity I have found out some facts about how the first Christmas card showed in the sides people caring for the poor and in the centre of the card it showed a family having a large Christmas dinner. The next fact was as printing methods improved over time it became very popular and it started to produce in large numbers from about 1860, then 10 years later in 1970 they shortened the to cost to half a penny which allowed for more people to send cards. The third fact is that the United States of America around the late 1840s Christmas cards were very expensive that made people not afford them.

Then I watched a video that showed different designs to create Christmas cards, which gave me an inspiration to do the ornament design. In the card I have drew the flag of the country, the beach because I really love going there, and a zig zag ornament, and an M&M's design because I like to eat them.

After I finished making this card I gave it to my mum because is one of the hard working person in my family. I found this activity very fun because I really like making cards and for other occasions too for my neighbours, and my family.

Summer Learning Journey | Cicadas Do Maths

My timeline in the DLO above shows my prediction of how my life might be like this. The information that I have written in the text boxes are things I want to do and experience when I become an adult.
Something I have learnt while doing this activity was that the life of the cicadas depends on what species they are, like the cicadas in USA they can live up to 17 years, which is a long life for them. I enjoyed doing this activity because I did not know that every species have a different life limit.

Summer Learning Journey | Kennings Poem about Bees

Today Fotu and I have done another activity called Kennings Poem. Kennings poem is like a riddle, and each line has only 2 words, and the two words are seperated by a hyphen(-). The two words can be a noun and a verb or two nouns.

While doing this activity we were listing animals that reminded of summer. We chose bees because we both have been seeing bees in our garden as well as other parts of our community.

We both enjoyed doing this activity because it made us think more about what words we were going to use to write about the bees.

Summer Learning Journey | Forced Perspective Photography

Today I have done another activity called forced perspective photography. Forced perspective photography is an optical illusion using your camera, this can make things that are very small seem very big, or make something that is big really small. This is depended on where you place your camera. For my forced perspective images I have done myself reading a huge book, me putting on sunscreen, me pushing a huge beach ball, and lastly growing a Christmas Tree on my hand.

The reason why I chose these images was because it was what I do during the summer. I found this activity a little bit hard as sometimes the photos didn't look like what I had expected.

Summer Learning Journey | Build Something that Floats | Nanogirl

Today I have done another Summer Learning Journey Nanogirl activity. For this task I have created a boat that floats on the water. The materials that I used were a plastic container lid for the body, then blu tack to stick the pencil to the lid, and lastly a piece of paper to make the main sail. During this activity I looked at Nanogirls video to give me an idea of what I was going to make because the boats that I made sank or got leaked by water. I enjoyed this activity because it allowed me to improve my boat when it was not working.

Summer Learning Journey ~ E hia nga mea? ~ Kick start activity

Today I have done another activity called E hia nga mea (how many)? For this task I watched a counting video up to ten in Maori. Then I created a counting poster using the images on the web and creating my own images. During this activity it has helped me to recall the numbers in Maori, because it has been a while since I have done Te Reo activities.  The reason why I chose these items above was because it was what I do and have during the summer holidays.

Summer Learning Journey | Mandala Mania | Kick Start Challenge

Today I have done another activity called Mandala Mania. In this activity I had a choice of using natural materials from the garden, or using materials from our house, or using products around the house, or making a digital version using png flowers, and I chose to he the digital version, which can be seen above. I enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to use any flower, and be creative on where I put it around the circle.

Summer Learning Journey | Magic Maths

Today I have done another kick start activity called magic maths. In this activity I needed to use my maths skills to find the answers of each of the answers on the slide. To do this task I have watched the instructions of the video, making a copy of the slide, then practicing the trick to try it on my friends. I found this activity very fun because I was able to also teach my other friends how to do this trick.

Summer Learning Journey ~ Vector Art

Vector art was the third activity that I have done. To create these images it uses lines, curves, and polygons to create the image. When people create this art is doesn't looks the focus/quality of the image, if people zoom in.

In the image above the blurb I have created my hero, Naomi Osaka. She is a Japanese and Haitian tennis player. The reason why I chose her is that because when I was playing tennis I wasn't really interested but when I saw her playing tennis on tv, I was really inspired by her which encouraged me to improve myself.

After drawing the image I searched up her quote which is "You just gotta keep going and fighting for everything, and one day you'll get to where you want."

My three top tips:

- Start off basic, detail it last.
- Use your heroes that inspire you.
- Use the right tools.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it enabled me to share the person who inspired me in tennis.

Summer Learning Journey ~ Spread the Word ~ Step it Up Challenge

Today I have done an activity called spread the word. In this task I needed to comment on the top 5 favourite blog posts. The 5 blog posts that I have commented on were the topic of the art colouring book that I really enjoyed doing.

To do this task I watched a short video on how I was to do this task, copied the slide to put the blogs that I have commented on. After that I went on students' blog posts and gave them a positive comment, as well as a question for them. Then I took the pictures of their blog post and pasted it on the slide. Lastly I submitted my comments on the SLJ comment form.

I found this activity fun because it was enjoyable to look at other peoples art as well as a fact about the pictures they were colouring in.

Summer Learning Journey ~ Poetry Slam ~ Step it up Activity

Today I have done another task, which is called the Poetry Slam. I have added my thoughts, and images of summer to help me for inspiration and for ideas when I am writing these poetrys for the rest of this poetry slam activities.

During this activity I have watched four poetry videos to help me write down the answers for what makes a good slam performance and the different ideas for summer like, swimming, going to the beach, seeing many pohutukawa trees near waters, etc.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it allowed me to think more about the answers for each question on slide 4.

Summer Learining Journey ~ Draw a Geometree ~ Kick Start Activity

Today I have done another activity about geometry art. In this activity I have used vivid to do the trunk of the tree, as well as the branches of the tree. Then I used the vivid again to draw the different shapes on the branches. After that I used the colour pencils to colour the inside of some of the shapes.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to create my own geometric tree.

Summer Learning Journey ~ NASA Art Colouring Book ~ Kick Start Activity

This was my second activity of the Summer Learning Journey Activity, and I have recreated the drawing of the image looking out to the Earth. In this activity I have selected a colour and filled out the blank parts of the drawing.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it allowed me to pick any colours, and to be creative.

Summer Learning Journey ~ NASA Art Colouring Book ~ Step It Up Activity

This was the first Summer Learning Journey activity that I have done. In this task I have chosen an image of a soccer ball in the space craft, then filled the white parts on the page using the colours on the site. After I finished the art, I pasted the original image to a Google Drawing and pasted my art too. Then I wrote why I chose the picture, and an interesting fact about exercising because it's important to keep their bodies healthy since they don't need to use much muscles than on earth.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I learnt how astronauts keep their bodies healthy in space.

Email Etiquette ~ Cybersmart Challenge

LI.to write a quality email.

Today I did another cybersmart challenge called email etiquette. When writing a good email to someone it allows the person who is reading to know what you are talking about specificly. I enjoyed doing this activity because it taught me how to write a better email when I am writing to someone.

Computer Set Up Design

LI.to design and label your ultimate gaming setup and controller.
In this activity I created my own set up room using Google draw, to see what my gaming room would look like if I had one. To have the right gaming equipments I looked up different types of things that people have in their set up to complete mine. After that I labelled my items so that people know what each of them are. I enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me build my knowledge on what is needed in a gaming room.

Season Description

LI.to paint a picture with your words to describe the setting.

In this activity I have created a season description about gaming. I looked at different websites and wrote why the game introduces new seasons about every 10 weeks. Something I found interesting was that creating new seasons allows others to enjoyed more of the game and keep the game going instead of he players playing the same seasons.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem that describes a character from your favourite online game.

In this activity I have ceated a cinquain poem to describe about my character. Using word hippo I searched up words that would match my characters personality and her actions. I enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to improve my cinquain poem.

25 Words Challenge ~ V-Bucks

LI.to explain what V-bucks are in exactly 25 words.

In this activity we needed to summarize what V-bucks so that people can understand when they see one or want to buy one. To get an understanding of what these were I went on a few sites and wrote it in my own words. I enjoyed summarizing this because I didn't know what is was, and why gamers bought it for.

Skins Profile

LI.to describe my favourite online gaming character.

In this activity I created my own character called Poised. In the writing section I have wrote what she looks like and why shes wearing that, and her reactive skill to describe my character. I really enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to customize my own gaming character.

Manga Artist

LI: To read for meaning and understanding

Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to create a DLO in our own words that tells us about the life of our favourite manga artist or a well known manga artist.

A fact I found interesting was just winning a comic contest in freshman year led to him having his stories being broadcasted.

Advertising

LI.to use advertising language to persuade others to think like you.
In this activity my partner (Te Raumati) and I created an advertisment to explain which console or device was best to play online games. To create this DLO we looked at different websites to get more information and to find the best ways to describe the model. I enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to understand more about gaming technology from the websites that I have come across to.

6 Sentence Story

LI: Use 6 sentences to set up the structure of a narrative

To help us put our learning this week together we were asked to write a 6 sentence story. This story will be used as the text in our manga comic DLO.

Manga Comic

LI: To illustrate our writing in the style of anime/manga
Our challenge today was to turn the events in our 6 sentence stories into a manga comic strip. This activity was really fun because I was able to be creative by designing my own comic.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe an anime characte
This week we have been exploring the world of anime and manga. Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes our favourite anime/manga character. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

Summary Customised Shoes

LI.to explain in fewer words what the text is about.

The challenge for today was to read an article about Rangi-Haira Jaxon for his passion of customizing sneakers. For Rangi-Haira Jaxon to do this he was inspired by Just For Kicks as they were designing shoes, and because he had a desire of art and sneakers.

Something I found interesting was how Rangi-Haira Jaxon can design them and sell them worldwide as it can allow people to buy from him and be reconized on internet.

Recreating Famous Artworks

LI: To use Google Draw to recreate a famous artwork

LI: To use your knowledge of colour and colour mixing to replicate the colours used in the artworks.

This week we have been learning about famous artworks and colour mixing. The artwork I chose was the girl with a pearl earring by Johannes Vermeer. This artwork was painted in 1665. It was painted because when the girl was 16 she was a maid at Johannes Vermeer house, and when they met he decided to draw her. Today it can be found in the Mauritshuis Museum in the Hague.

I enjoyed this challenge because I learned a few facts about who Johannes Vermeer.

Handshakes | Distance Learning

This week for math I needed to figure out how many handshakes there would be altogether if everyone in LS2 shook hands. There are 54 students in LS2 so the equation is 53x27, because if one person handshaked everyone they would have shook 53 students, and when you handshake there are two people so I divided 54 by 2 which gave me 27. The answer to 53x27 is 1,431 and that's how I worked out this challenge.

I enjoyed attempting this challenge because it helped learn to use the most effcient strategy to help solve math equations.

Fred's Decision

LI: To use smart searching skills

Part of our reading challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to find facts about geese. One fact I found interesting was that some geeses do migration each year to get to warmer places.

Find the 4 errors

This week I have done another maths challenge about finding 3 errors from the problem. In this challenge I partnered up with David to explain and fix the mistake. One of the mistakes that we have found out was the last challenged. This is because the person who has solved this problem didn't use BEDMAS. BEDMAS is used when solving equations with multiple  equations.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it made me think carefully on what strategy I should use.

Writing Words | Distance Learning

This week I have done another maths challenge called writing words. In this activity I needed to write down how I solved the problem and the answer. In this challenge I used long subtraction to help me solve it. One example of the maths is, 5343-493 which will equal to 4850. To this I first subtracted the ones column which is 3-3=0, next I borrowed 100 from the 300 because I can't subtract 9 from 4. So the maths will be 140-90=50. Then I borrowed again 1000 from the 5000 because I can't subtract 400 from 200. So the maths will be 1200 - 400 = 800. After that 4000-0=4000 because there is no number to subtract. Lastly I add all the totals which will be 0 + 50 + 800+400=4850.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it made me think carefully on what strategy I should use.

The world’s first 3D printed home | Distance Learning

This was the first maths challenge I have done for distance learning. I needed to solve three challenges using the most efficient strategy and also write how I solved this out. To help me solve each maths I used addition and subtraction written algorithm. The first questions was there are 89 roof pieces and 195 wall pieces, how many pieces altogether? To answer this question I added 89 and 195 because it is telling me how many pieces altogther, so the answer will be 284.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it made me think carefully on what strategy I should use.

Things that annoy me

LI: To write a list poem that describes a topic by painting a picture with your words.

Today for writing I have created my own list poem about things that annoy me. A list poem is a poem that is used to create a picture using our experiences from our own lives by listing an item, people, and ideas. I chose this topic because I experience it most of the time. One of the examples that I usually have to deal with is when my internet is really slow.

I enjoyed writing this list poem because it allowed me to explain what annoys me.

How to Survive a Cow Attack

LI.to evaluate.

This week we are using our skills of inferring and reorganising information in a text to make evaluation about facts and events that is not stated. Our follow up challenge was to read an article that told us how to survive a cow attack. We then used the information from both texts to create a DLO that tells others how to survive a cow attack.

I found out that one of the ways that make cows aggressive is when they see a running dog.

I enjoyed learning how to survive a cow attack because I can use this to escape myself from danger if this ever happens to me.

I am Google Meet ready

LI.to make sure we all know what to do and are using Google Meet properly.

Today for cybersmart I have done another challenge. This challenge was to make sure to be ready when we need to do a Google Meeting.

In the first activity I rated which background looked the most appropriate when I am doing a Google Meeting. One of the things that everyone should remember is to not face your screen towards the window. If you do not do this it prevents the light from showing up on the screen around you, and it makes easier for people to see you from their screen.

In the second activity was about Google Meet Etiquette. I needed to fill in the gaps of each image that matched the words.

In the third I needed to write why keeping our camera on was important, why we should have our mic on mute, why is it important to sit still, and why is it important to find a quiet place.

For my last activity I needed to take an image of myself getting ready for a Google Meet.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to recall of what is needed to be done before I do a Google Meet.

E hia nga?

Today for the Te Reo Challenge we have completed the ispy. In this activity there were a list of object we needed to write the number of things there were in the image in Maori. To help us count more accurately without counting the same one again we put shapes to remind us to not repeat it again.

Some new words that were in the questions were:

Waea pūkoro - cell phone

Hū - shoe

Kotahi tāra - one dollar coin

Pirihimana - police officer

Poi whutupaoro - rugby ball

I enjoyed this activity because it help me build up my knowledge of objects in Maori.

Hauora

In the past few weeks we have been learning about what happens if one of your 4 walls falls down, and what each wall means for an athlete. In this activity we got into partners and created a poster showing what happens if an athlete makes a mistake on the performance. Using ‘Canva’ we showed the meanings of each four wall and how it connects to the athletes.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I learnt different ways to help keep your four walls standing.

Something I found interesting was that when one wall falls down their whare tapa wha loses their balance.

Presentation

Last week for reading, our class created a speech about the Ancient Olympics. Before doing the presentation we researched about the Ancient Olympics in order to understand this event. In the presentation we talked about what the event was, where it happened, the different events, some interesting facts, the days of the event, who took part, and which states did the athletes came from. After that we wrote a script for each of our group so that it is easier to now our lines. Using prezi we presented it in front of the class. An interesting fact that I found interesting was that the age limit for the men to compete were 12 years old and over.

Hauora and Olympians

Athletes will understand how to improve to become more successful. Improving their skills, train them more mentally, and physically to help support their four walls. Having an error in a performance can help athletes to learn from that mistake. Becoming unsuccessful can lead to becoming successful, build up their self-esteem so that it can keep their four walls standing. Having all four walls standing strong can set a good mindset which makes them a humble athlete.

Olympics Maths Challenge 4

LI. to use the most efficient strategy to find the answers.

LI. to use LS2 Maths Talk to discuss strategies.

Today I have done another challenge. This challenge was about creating a graph and work out the top 10 medal winning countries. While doing this challenge I used addition as the most efficient strategy because I needed to add the totals of each country together to find out the answer.

Steps:

The most efficient strategy I used to solve this challenge was multiplication. The reason why this was the most efficient strategy was that I needed to multiply 4 right angles to how many squares there were in an entire badminton racket.

In the second sentence use the data from both charts, that means summing the top 10 of both charts. When I summed the totals, I ranked it to 1 - 10.

I found this activity interesting because it helped me expand my knowledge on addition.

Olympics Maths Challenge 3

LI. to use the most efficient strategy to find the answers.

LI. to use LS2 Maths Talk to discuss strategies.

Some the top 10 will be:

  1. United States of America - 2673

  2. USSR/Russian Federation - 1271

  3. Germany - 788

  4. Italy - 771

  5. Great Britain - 770

  6. France - 683

  7. Republic of Germany - 625

  8. Sweden - 561

  9. China - 487

  10. Norway - 457

I found this activity interesting because it helped me expand my knowledge of angles.

Mindfulness Reflection

Mindfulness is a meditation that calms our body and our mind using a mindfulness bell. It also allows us to focus on now, and leave the past and not worry about the future. There are two zones of mindfulness which are red and green. The red zone is when you are angry, frustrated, distracted, anxious, etc. The green zone is when you are calm, clear, peaceful, engaged, etc. This also lets us remove our negativity from our minds, and control our thoughts and emotions. To have a mindful mind you will need to have your legs crossed, hands on knees, close your eyes then breath in and then breath out while your back is straight.

After doing this mindfulness session I felt more calm, and had a clear mind.

Olympic Provocation

LI.to compare there and now with the Olympic places.

The DLO showing above is about the amount of money that was spent to build and help with the olympics. My reading group wrote some no and yes ideas as example yes they should spent this money to make their families proud, also with no because people could use the money with vaccines. We also found a photo of then and now happening every four years.

Acids and Bases | Topic 8

Today for tech we have been learning about what products are acids and what are bases.

First we learnt about the differences between acid and bases. Using this information we created a table and experimented on 11 different types of chemicals, which are toilet cleaner, distilled water, apple juice, detergent, milk, window cleaner, orange juice, lemon juice, baking soda, tea, and vinegar. To find out if the product was acid or base we used pH stripes.

These items were put into a well plate. To help us find out which product is an acid or base we used blue and red litmus paper. The red litmus paper will turn blue if it’s base but if it is acid it will stay the same colour, the blue litmus paper will do the opposite. We used a pH chart to find out the colour level.

I enjoyed learning about different products that produce acids or bases.

Thinking Grid | Water Safety

LI.to learn how and why we need to stay safe in and around water.

Today we have done an activity about water safety. We are doing this water safety at PBS because we are surrounded by water and if we’re in a situation where we need to stay a float or swim we can use it. In this activity we needed to respond to six questions that showed our knowledge of water safety. Then we wrote a collaborative paragraph using our responses on our thinking grid.

I enjoyed this activity because it helped me show my knowledge of water safety.

.

Olympics Maths Challenge 1

LI. to use the most efficient strategy to find the answers.

LI. to use LS2 Maths Talk to discuss strategies.

The most efficient strategy I used to solve this challenge was addition and division. Addition strategy was used to find out how many meters Micheal swam for all of his different events, and the division strategy was used to find out how many strokes he did if he took 2 meters in each stroke.

Steps:

For or the freestyle relay (4x100m), we didn't multiply it, the 4 is the amount of people that did it so Michael was 1 of 4 so it is 100 same for the medley relay and the second freestyle relay.

The maths:

400

100

200

200

200

100

+100

-----------

1500

Then, I divide 1500 by 2 because for every stroke Michael takes it is 2 meters.

1500 divided by 2 = 750

So 750 is the amount of strokes to take Michael over to the end of the pool

I enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me improve my division skill.

Olympics Maths Challenge 2

LI. to use the most efficient strategy to find the answers.

LI. to use LS2 Maths Talk to discuss strategies.
For this task we used the most efficient strategy to solve maths questions. The most efficient strategy that was used for this challenge was addition and subtraction. These strategies were used when we needed to find out the answer of how much the Gold medalist scored over Nastia, and used to find our how much points did Nastia scored than the Bronze medalist.

Steps:

For the first question the Gold medal winners score was 16.726 because Nastia scored 16.725 and the gold medalist scored 0.001 more than Nastia. So we added 0.001 and 16.725, that gave us the score of the gold medalists.

To see if our answers were correct we subtracted 16.726 to 0.001 which equalled to 16.725, and added 1.75 to 14.975 which equalled to 16.726.

For the second question Nastia scored over 1.750 than the Bronze medalist because we subtracted the 14.975 (third place winner score) to 16.725 (second place winner score) which equal to 1.750.

To see if the answer was correct, we added 1.750 to 14.975 that equals 16.725.

I enjoyed doing this challenge because it helped me improve my decimal challenge.

Super Fingers Competetion

LI.to recall our timestable quickly.

Today for maths we have recalled our multiplication knowledge by playing a game called Super Fingers. This is a game to see how well and how fast you can answer questions, by using dice.

The instructions of this game is that we need to write a phrase on a white board or piece of paper. Then you will need to roll 2 dice which we will multiply by, and the first person to call out the answer will take one of the letters out. The first person to have all of the letters rubbed out will win the game

The process we did it in was similar to a netball game, draw, quarter finals, semi finals, and lastly finals. To run this competition smoothly we created a bracket which showed who will versus who. Our bracket was now even so later in the game we did a wild card who were Vayan and Micah.

In pairs we challenged each other to see who was faster at answering the questions. The winner would go against the winner from another person. Whoever wins goes up against another winner, and it will keep going until there are two people left, which would be the finals.

The two people facing each other in the finals were Afatia and Chris.

I enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me recall my multiplication facts, and answer it more quickly.

Osmosis and transpiration

Today for science we have been learning about osmosis and transpiration. During this task we used a celery to see the tiny tubes inside which will absorb the water to the leaves.

We first learnt about photosynthesis which is the method on how a plant grows and how they become food. The leaves are the part of a plant where photosynthesis happens. Tiny Cells and special cells help to distribute food in different parts of a plant. This method is called phalon and xylem.

Next we did the experiment which was using a conical flask, water, food colouring, water, bag, and a twist tie. Using these ingredients can help us observe the movement of the water from the roots to the leaves through xylem.

Lastly, we cut open the stems of the celery to see the coloured water going through the stalk. This shows how much water has been absorbed.

I found this session interesting because I learnt the procedure on how a plant absorbs water which goes through the cells.

Matariki Brochure

LI. Create a brochure about Matariki

Outside template
Inside template

Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition. To share our research with people we have created a brochure about what each star represents, how we can celebrate Matariki, what it is, and how we can celebrate the Matariki.

Something I found interesting was that I am able to show what Matariki is to people who doesn't understand it.

Matariki Harvest

LI:Create a DLO about food that is harvest in Matariki

Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition.
To strengthen our connections to Matariki we had a choice of research activities.I enjoyed this task because I got to use my researching skills to find out the food harvested in Matariki.Something I learnt about harvest foods in matariki is all the different foods harvest throughout the session of Matariki.

Matariki

LI.to strengthen our connections to Matariki.

I found out that when the Matariki disappears, this is a signal for the Maori people to gather and preserve crops.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to explore more about what Matariki is.

Places In Aotearoa

This week for Te Reo Maori we have been translating Maori named places into English using Maori Dictionary. During this task we also need to search up where each name of the place was North or South. Some of the places are Whakatu - Nelson, Waihopai - Invercargill, etc. Lastly we labelled each place on the New Zealand map. I enjoyed learning about the places of New Zealand in Maori.

Bubble Science

LI: to conduct a scientific experiment about bubbles.

Today for tech we have been learning about the science behind bubbles.

The first task was writing about our learning goals and outcome. Then we made notes about the structure of a bubble.

Next we watched a video about how bubbles are made and some information about the name of the wand which is the stick to blow the bubbles.

For the second task we watched a video about how to create three types of bubbles using the methods shown.

Then we started creating our bubble solutions in pairs. The ingredients that we used were water, sugar, glycerol, and detergent.

After that we created the solution and used fuzzy sticks and straws to make bubbles.

Something I found interesting was creating the cube inside the bubbles, because it was quite diffifult to make when the bubbles were popping frequently.

Ancient Greece posing

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this posting activity, we first pick five Gods or Goddesses and pick an image from around the world or the God or Goddess and write a caption for the post.

I found this activity fun because as a group we got to use this task as an instagram post but about goddess.

The post that I found most interesting was Hera because it was It is hard to be the goddess of marriage when normally everyone usually cheats on everyone!

Identifying Comparisons

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this smart searching activity, we used our comprehension and research skills to learn about the difference between Athens and Sparta.

I found this activity fun because both of them had differences.

The fact I found most interesting was education for boys because both of them didn't have the same perspectives for boys.

Imagination

LI.to edit our writing using DRAFT.

This week for writing we have done another abstract poem in pairs. An abstract poem is a poem a about an abstract noun. An abstract noun is something that exist but you can’t touch it (happiness, failure, trust, etc)

In this task we need to include the five senses, punctuations, complex sentences, metaphor, simile, etc. After writing this poem we used the DRAFT process which helped us make our writing better for other people to understand.

The structure of this poem is defining what the abstract noun. Then the second line starts with using one of the senses. Lastly write four more lines starting with the abstract noun using the other four senses

Something I found interesting about this was that when we edited it explained the abstract noun better

Flower Powder | Science Tech

LI.to explain each of the parts of the Hibiscus.

Today for tech we have been learning about the different parts of a Hibiscus flower.

The first task we wrote was about our learning goals and outcome. We also wrote the name of the flower if it’s still not opened yet, what we notice when we look at the flower, and why a flower it's important.

Our second task was about learning the parts of the Hibiscus flower. To learn more about the parts of the flower we watched a video about what the parts are and our teacher explained what it is used for.

The third task was to learn how to dissect a Hibiscus flower in half. We watched another video about the equipment we need and the method of how you can see each part of the flower.

Lastly we put pollen on a rectangular piece and looked put it on the microscope to get a closer observation

Something I found interesting was that the pollum viewed more closer from the miscrope looked like a coronovirus shape but yellow.

Life

LI.To write an abstract noun senses poem.

Today we had a writing task with the whole classroom for Abstract Noun poems. In this activity we learnt how to understand what a metaphor is and how we use them writing. We worked in groups to collaborate this challenge and make into a powerful eye catching DLO.

An abstract noun is one that refers to an idea, quality or state(You cannot see, hear, touch or smell an abstract noun).

An example of abstract noun is the poem myself and my group put together by working together and learning from each other.

The five senses are see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.

A metaphor is a comparison to two things without using as or like.

An example of a metaphor is where you compare to things together without using like or as.

Something we found interesting about doing this task was learning how to properly structure an abstract noun poem.

Test our knowledge of words in Maori

LI.to see how much knowldge we now in Maori.

Today for Maori we have recapped about the Maori sentence structure. In the google doc showen above it says what the object is, and where it is, using Maori dictionary. After we finished that activity we went on a site called test your knowledge of these kupu. This site was to see how much Maori words knowldge we knew. I enjoyed doing this activity because it built up more of my Maori word knowledge.

Did this happen?

LI: consider both perspectives.

Today for inquiry my group and I read information about Kuirau Park, Rotorua, New Zealand. We then looked if the information was true or false, if the event took place or not by looking at this place in New Zealand. Then we wrote our opinion for the text that we read. My opinion is that the event did not took place because taniwha is a character from a Maori story.

Something I found interesting was that some of the information written was real but at the end it was not true.

Main Ideas

LI: To identify the main ideas in a text

This week for inquiry we retold how Maui slowed down the sun using main ideas.

First, we watched a video of how Maui slowed down the sun. After that, we wrote multiple ideas about the important ideas in the story. Next we wrote 4 very important ideas from the important ideas. Lastly, we wrote 3 vital ideas.

Something I found interesting was that the 3 vital ideas were the facts that needed to be explained in the story.
